Plane skids off runway at JFK Airport

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (NBC) - A plane filled with passengers skidded to a stop at New York’s JFK Airport Wednesday night, going off the runway and into a patch of grass.

Officials say the plane experienced problems in the air that forced it to make a landing.

Delta flight 886 took off from Atlanta and was scheduled to land at LaGuardia Airport.

The plane carrying 123 passengers and crew was near Kennedy when the plane experienced low hydraulic pressure.

The twin engine jet landed but came to an abrupt stop on a grassy area just off the taxi way.

A spokesperson for Delta said the plane needed to land at Kennedy because it had a longer runway which would better ensure a safe landing.

There were no injuries to passengers or crew.
