Mayor Walsh speaks at Kennedy's funeral

Posted: Updated:
WEST ROXBURY, Mass. (WHDH) - Mayor Marty Walsh commended firefighter Michael Kennedy for his service for the United States and for the city of Boston.

"He was a young man when he fell in the line of duty last week, but what Michael Kennedy did for his years was to resonate in many more lifetimes to come," Walsh said.

Kennedy served in the United States Marine Corps for six years and did combat duty in Iraq, in addition to his service as a firefighter at Engine 33, Ladder 15 in Boston.

"Like many others in his company, he did not hesitate to tackle one of the worst fires in Boston's most recent history on Beacon Street last week. The loss of such a courageous, vibrant, passionate man leaves a void in our communities that is impossible to fill. So we pray for his family," Walsh said.

The mayor praised Kennedy's spirit, values, and impact and thanked him on behalf of the city of Boston.
