WEST ROXBURY, Mass. (WHDH) - Rev. Daniel Mahoney, chaplain to the Boston Fire Department, began the funeral services for firefighter Michael Kennedy in West Roxbury on Thursday, offering a prayer for Kennedy and his family.

"We pray as individuals this morning and we also pray as one body that firefighter now knows the peace of eternal life, and may all of us pray for Mike's family," Mahoney said.

He offered thanks to those who both attended the services and offered support, including Mayor Marty Walsh and former mayor Thomas Menino.

"In a special way this morning we acknowledge the members of Ladder 15 and Engine 33 who were firefighter Kennedy's family and firefighter Lt. Walsh's family, are grieving so very, very much with all of us, all the members of the fire department, active and retired, uniformed and civilian," Mahoney said.
