Ammonia leak in Norton

Posted: Updated:
NORTON, Mass. (WHDH) -

A chemical leak in Norton has sparked evacuations.

Fire officials said it's an ammonia leak at a commercial business. As many as 100 people in nearby neighborhoods were evacuated, including a private school.

The leak has reportedly been contained and the suspected cause is a faulty valve. There's no report of injury, but no one will be allowed back in until the ammonia plume is gone.

The Norton Police Department tweeted that there is no timeline for lifting road closures and evacuations.
