Man accused in Waltham teen murder arraigned

WALTHAM, Mass. (WHDH) - The man arrested in connection with the death of a Waltham High School student was arraigned in court on Thursday.

Police arrested 21-year-old Taylor Poulin in Maine one week ago. He appeared in Waltham District Court on a conspiracy to violate a controlled substance charge.

Investigators said Poulin and another man were involved in the murder of 17-year-old Tyler Zanco last month. The other man, the one believed to have pulled the trigger, remains at large. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Prosecutors said the incident started as a drug deal gone bad. The plan was originally to sell $5,000 worth of marijuana to Zanco. Both sides allegedly turned violent and the other suspect pulled out a gun, killing the 17-year-old.

"My client was a victim in this case. Something was going on at the time, he gets hit with a taser, he gets hit with brass knuckles and some other actor comes into play and ends up a tragedy," said Defense Attorney Drew Segadelli.

Poulin is being held on $500,000 cash bail.
