Funeral services scheduled for fallen firefighters

Posted: Updated:
WATERTOWN, Mass. (WHDH) -

A step toward healing in the aftermath of the Boston firefighter tragedy.

Later Tuesday afternoon, family, friends, and the public will be given the chance to say goodbye to one of these two heroes.

A wake will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Watertown for Lt. Ed Walsh. Thousands are expected to pay their respects.

Visiting hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday night. The funeral for the 43-year-old will be held Wednesday. It will also be held at St. Patrick's. The services begin at 10:30 a.m. and it is open to the public.

The wake for firefighter Michael Kennedy will be held Wednesday at the P.E. Murray Funeral Home in West Roxbury. Visiting hours will be from 2:30 to 8 p.m.

Kennedy's funeral mass will happen Thursday at the Holy Name Church, also in West Roxbury. It’s scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Watertown police said the roads are going to be shut down beginning at noon Tuesday just because they're expecting so many people to show up in advance for these services. Police said they want to make sure this is as orderly as possible.

Firefighters from not only around the state but around the country plan on being here. Hotels are offering discounts for the visiting first responders.

Many members of the public said if they're not inside the church paying their respects, they may be outside on the streets.
