Leominster Pop Warner coach accused of raping player

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (WHDH) -

A Pop Warner football coach is accused of raping a 12-year-old boy while he coached teams in Leominster and Lunenburg.

Brian Brause, 36, appeared before a judge in Leominster Monday facing two counts of aggravated rape among other charges.

Prosecutors said Brause gave the boy liquor and showed him pornography when the boy was as young as 12-years-old.

Investigators claim the incidents happened at Brause's apartment in Leominster and in a parking lot.

The District Attorney said Brause was a Pop Warner football coach from the 90s up until 2008 when he began a two-year coaching stint in Lunenburg.

Leominster police now want to know if any other players, in either Leominster or Lunenburg, had improper contact with Brause.

“As a coach you have a chance to help them out and show them the right direction, but some people abuse it and go the wrong way. There’s a big trust factor when it comes to a team,” Ryan Griffin, a student, said.

Brause’s defense attorney says his client has no prior record and has worked as an electrician for the past 22 years.
