Remains found connected to recent Somerville murder

Posted: Updated:
SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) - The human remains found near Somerville train tracks Sunday afternoon are connected to the body parts found behind a Norwood school back in January, sources said.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office confirmed that the remains were found at around 12:45 p.m. near the train tracks off of School Street.

The body parts found behind a school in Norwood stuffed in suitcases and garbage bags were identified as belonging to 66-year-old Vincent Lalli, a Somerville man who had previously been reported missing.

Anthony Canejo, 52, and his son Anthony Canejo Jr. were charged in the murder. The elder Canejo was Lalli's roommate and allegedly beat the victim with a crowbar and strangled him before dismembering the body and moving it.

The apartment the suspect and victim shared was not too far from where these new body parts were found.

A source said that the State Police were in the area conducting a search with K-9s on another incident when they found them.

Local and state police are still investigating.
