Bobcat attack in Upton leads to rabies scare

Posted: Updated:
UPTON, Mass. (WHDH) - A bobcat that tried to attack a horse in Upton has led to a rabies scare in the town.

On March 15, the bobcat attempted to attack a horse in its stall off of Grove St. Animal Control officers killed the bobcat on the scene but tested positive for rabies.

Officials don't think the animal transferred the disease to the horse, but several residents have expressed concern.

"The rabies virus has been found in the wildlife of Upton for several years now.  Rabies is not new to Upton. We will continue to offer information to residents through our website, and the local media to help protect you and your family members," a spokesperson for Animal Control said in a press release.
