Grady Sizemore to start in centerfield for Red Sox

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WHDH) -
The Red Sox are making some big moves right before the regular season begins on Monday.

Red Sox Manager John Farrell decided to shuffle things up in the outfield by turning to Grady Sizemore, a veteran, to open the season in center field.

According to Farrell, Sizemore was humble after being told of the decision.

"He's taken this in stride and is extremely grateful for training staff," Farrell said.

This was maybe the most hotly contested roster spot for the Sox after Jacoby Ellsbury signed with the New York Yankees in the offseason.

It was expected that Jackie Bradley Jr. would be taking the position, but instead he’s starting in Pawtucket.

Sizemore hit .333 in spring training, showing brilliance at the plate and in the field while Bradley struggled, hitting only .158 and striking out a team-high 17 times.
