Firefighter relatives get salute at Logan Airport

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - Firefighters planned a private tribute to the relatives of Lt. Ed Walsh as they arrived at Logan Airport on Thursday, but the moment has gone viral.

The Walsh’s mother-in-law and other relatives got off their JetBlue flight to firefighters standing at attention.

Max Widmer, the South Boston man who took a photograph of the moment, said he didn’t want to intrude.

“Just complete silence. You could see it was a mixture of being overcome by what was happening and at the same time the grief,” Widmer told 7News.

The photo has gotten more than 30,000 shares on Facebook and more hits on Twitter.
