Firefighters knock down 2-alarm fire near Kendall Square

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WHDH) - Responders battled a 2-alarm fire on the roof of a building in Cambridge Friday morning.

Heavy smoke could be seen across the Charles River coming from Riverfront Office Park is at 1 Main St. near Kendall Square and the Cambridgeside Galleria.

The Cambridge Fire Department confirmed that the fire was knocked down a little after noon.

MassDOT said on Twitter that the Longfellow Bridge was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic due to the fire response. Memorial Drive is open to traffic, but Main St. was closed at Third St.

There are no reports of injuries.

Officials have not disclosed the cause of the fire.
