Flames flare up again at Back Bay fire

Posted: Updated:
Just after 7 p.m. the flames of a 9-alarm fire at 298 Beacon St. in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood flared back up through the roof.

Firefighters have been fighting the fire since 2:30 Wednesday afternoon when the fire started in the basement of the four-story building

Flames appeared to subside around 6 p.m. but the flare up was likely caused by heavy winds stoking the fire and blowing smoke toward Newbury Street and the Prudential Center.

More than 150 firefighters were on the scene fighting the flames from the ground, ladders and the roofs of neighboring buildings. Sources tell 7News two firefighters were killed during the battle.
