Teen girl stabbed at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School

Posted: Updated:

A verbal altercation at a Cambridge school ended with one student getting stabbed.

7News was the first to report the stabbing, which took place place during first period Tuesday morning in a classroom of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

Two teenage girls were involved, a junior and a senior. The students and teachers broke it up but not before one of the girls used a knife to stab the other one in the shoulder.

The altercation was quickly subdued but one student was injured with a small steak knife. Per our usual safety protocol we transferred that student to the hospital. The student received six stitches and has been released and is good to go,” Damon Smith, the school's principal, said.

The accused stabber, a 19-year-old, was removed from campus. She has yet to be arraigned for the altercation.

“I think she should go to jail. I don’t think you let someone loose for a while after doing something like that, especially in a school,” one student said.

The principal said there are school-based as well as legal consequences, although the superintendent said it was "way too soon" to discuss expelling her. The principal added he believes the girl who went to the hospital is now well enough to return to school tomorrow.

Parents were notified of the incident by email, one mother said she felt the incident was handled appropriately.

According to the principal neither girl has a record of trouble in the school.
