Randolph teen killed in snowboarding accident

Posted: Updated:
RANDOLPH, Mass. (WHDH) - This past weekend was Tommy Hoang’s first snowboard trip to Vermont and after a tragic accident it was also his last.

Friends, family, faculty members and teammates all gathered in Tommy’s memory just a short time after his death on the slopes.

“I was speechless, I’ve never had to experience losing a friend or someone I love. All of a sudden someone that I know that was sweet-hearted such a good person, a kind-hearted person, I was speechless, I couldn’t sleep at night,” Kristen Ho, a junior at Randolph High School, said.

Friends say Tommy was well-rounded, an honor student and three sport athlete who made others want to be better.

Although he wasn’t on the baseball team, players say they will have him in mind as they play this year.

“We wanted to make the playoffs this year and now we have more of a motive, we’re going to do it for Tommy,” Kenny Swain, a baseball player, said.

Grief counselors will be on hand throughout the week to help students who are emotionally distraught by Tommy’s death.
