Police and utility crews responded to Packard Avenue in Somerville Monday after a tractor-trailer got hooked on the wires and brought down several poles.
In a story you saw first on 7News neighbors say it sounded like an explosion, and then their power went out.
“All of a sudden we hear like a loud explosion or pop. I thought it was transformer blowing up,” said one Somerville resident.
A tractor-trailer snagged power lines as it crashed on Packard Avenue right by Tufts University. It was like a domino effect as the power lines came down.
“One pole pulls the other two,” said another resident of Somerville.
The driver said he is fine, and that he was able to safely get out of the tractor because the system is designed to blow a fuse and disable all power in the wires.
Homeowners said they were inconvenienced by the loss of power, and they hope that as repairs continue the wires will be high enough so a similar accident doesn’t happen again.
