Sorry this is late…Monday being Monday. By now, many of you know it’s wicked cold but the good news is that this arctic airmass (the umpteenth of the season) will be the last! Despite all that sunshine today our temps will only reach the upper 20s—nearly 20 degrees below normal! Clear & cold again tonight under a mostly clear sky. Tuesday is cold, just not bitterly so with daytime temps in the upper 30s as clouds arrive by afternoon. Those clouds are tied to a powerhouse storm for midweek.
Since late last week, all the weather models have advertised this powerhouse storm. They have also had their own opinion on that storm’s track. As of this morning, the consensus track is far enough offshore to spare most of southern New England from a major snowstorm. The exception is across far SE MA (Plymouth county) as well as the Cape/Islands.
I’m leaning toward a track that keeps the heaviest snow confined to the South Coast/Cape/Islands. In these areas, plan on a plowable snow (2-4″) with slightly higher amounts on the outer Cape/Nantucket. Once you step off the Cape, I’m thinking only a coating-1″ in some locations—with even less north & west of Boston.
What is forecasted with higher confidence is the wind. It will be strong during the day on Wednesday along the coast–especially along the South Shore/Cape/islands where gusts may exceed 60 mph on Cape Cod/Nantucket. This will likely lead to some power disruption during the day on the Cape. For metro Boston, winds will gust between 30-40mph for much of Wednesday.
In any event, look for much warmer air to head this way late week & next weekend…spring is finally on the way.
