1 million gallons of water leak into N.H. home

Posted: Updated:
EXETER, N.H. (WHDH) - A 114-year-old home has been through worse winters, but this year the cleanup will be monumental.

A pipe in an upstairs bathroom leaked so much water the basement was drenched and had water four feet deep.

The department of public works in Exeter noticed someone was using way too much water, they pin-pointed the location to a house on gill street, and soon learned the owner hasn't been home for months; she's in Florida for the winter.

Fire officials believe the water pipe, which leaked close to one million gallons of water, broke weeks ago.

So much water poured into that home it was enough to fill an entire swimming pool, but there was much more than that, even after filling the pool, you could still fill 12,000 bathtubs.

Neighbors say there was no one checking on the home so the problem was left unnoticed.

A lot of the water ended up in the yard but we're told the kitchen and bathroom are both ruined.
