Jane Richard gets new running leg near Marathon anniversary

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - The latest picture of Jane Richard with her new running leg seems to define the phrase “Boston Strong.”

The Richard family shared a new photo of the Boston Marathon bombing victim, who lost part of her leg as a result of the blast.

They said that the 8-year-old has already worn it to school several times, never feeling self-conscious.

"She's excited she’s proud of it, she's proud of the accomplishment. I think the best part is that she is not self-conscious about it at all," Larry Marchese, a family friend, said.

It was nearly a year ago the family was at the Boston Marathon finish line when the second of two bombs exploded right where they were standing. Jane's youngest brother Martin was killed. Her parents were injured, her mother lost sight in one eye and father lost hearing. Her oldest brother wasn’t hurt.

The pictures are uplifting as the family nears the anniversary of Martin’s death.

"A day doesn't pass when we don't cry over the loss of Martin, but we also laugh when we think about him, which feels like the right way to remember a little boy with a zest for life and a caring heart,” the family said in a statement.

The family set up the Team MR8 Foundation to help promote Martin's outlook of 'no more hurting people.' 100 runners in this year's Boston Marathon are raising money for Team MR8.
