Cement truck crash leaves hole in Prudential tunnel wall

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - Exit 22 on Route 90 eastbound was closed for several hours Friday afternoon due to a crash involving a cement truck that left a gaping hole in the Prudential tunnel wall.

A camera shows the truck as the driver loses control, but the truck hit the camera and knocked out its picture.

“The concrete truck struck the wall as it turned over and broke through,” a MassDOT official said.

State police said fuel and cement were spilled on the road and that while the hole is significant, the truck did not go through.

The driver suffered minor injuries but is expected to survive.

The portion of the wall that the truck hit was not structural and MassDOT says they do not expect it to cause any further problems.

The ramp was reopened just after 7 p.m.

Officials are investigating the cause of the crash, but believe that speed was a factor.
