Banners unveiled for 2014 Boston Marathon

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (AP) - Four-time Boston Marathon champion Bill Rodgers has helped unveil street banners for this year's Boston Marathon, including special banners designed to pay tribute to all those affected by last year's deadly bombing.

In a brief ceremony Thursday, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Rodgers and race sponsor John Hancock Financial unveiled the banners, which will be hung around Boston. The banners' theme of "We Run Together" highlights the many different people who come together for the race, including runners, volunteers, police and medical personnel.

Special honor banners will be hung in front of Marathon Sports and the Forum restaurant, near where two bombs exploded last year, killing three people and injuring more than 260.

John Hancock has cut last year's actual race banners into honor bracelets that will be given to each of this year's 36,000 registered runners.
