BOSTON (WHDH) - A Boston University Student was killed during an armed robbery while he was on spring break at home in Mexico City.

Freshman Diego Fernandez Montes was killed last week while taking a taxi, students who have never even met the teen said they are sad to hear of the death.

“He was a quiet kid, he was pretty good at economics, especially for a freshman. He was in a pretty hard class,” Trip Jagolta, one of Montes’ classmates said.

Montes was the treasurer of his residence hall association and of a Mexican student group on campus.

"It’s disturbing and it’s unpleasant and I feel terrible for his family. Scary to think that could happen to someone on spring break,” Monica Haynesworth said.

Counselors are available for BU students and several memorials have been created in his memory.
