MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - People who bought gas at the Manchester Mart in New Hampshire Sunday may be noticing some problems with their cars.

According to the gas station a delivery driver put diesel fuel in the regular tank and then it was pumped into about 25 cars.

Sharon Powers was one of the customers whose car was nearly ruined. She said her husband gassed up their SUV, but barely made it back to the house.

“In the morning my husband backed it out and it was smoking and it barely would shift and we were like ‘what is going on here,’” she said.

Surveillance caught the tanker driver making the delivery, the driver also put regular fuel in the diesel tank.

The powers' mechanic got her SUV running again after draining the fuel tank and checking the catalytic converter, but he's still trying to make sure the engine has no lasting damage.

Abenaqui Carriers has taken responsibility for the mixup on its website
, the company says its insurance company will reimburse everyone who was impacted.

"We apologize for this inconvenience and we hope to resolve it as soon as possible,” a statement from the company said.

The effect of putting diesel in a regular engine will depend on how long the car was running for, because diesel has oil in it you will notice lots of smoke when starting and driving your car; repairs could cost several thousand dollars
