Pelletier family hopes to get custody of their daughter from DCF

BOSTON (WHDH) - A Connecticut family is fighting to get custody of their daughter back from the Department of Children and Families.

The parents of 15-year-old Justina Pelletier lost custody of their daughter to the state after her medical care came into question.

During a hearing Monday the court promised a decision on whether the parents will get custody or not by the end of the week.

“All of us, we want my sister home. That’s all my little sister wants, and it’s her life, body and she should be able to do what she wants,” Justina’s sister Jennifer Pelletier said.

The Department of Children and Families, which currently has custody of Justina, released a statement as well.

"We are pleased with the progress Justina has made... The ultimate goal is for Justina to return to her home, which is dependent on her parents working with the providers, the courts and the state of Connecticut to come to resolution."

Justina's family says they are hopeful the judge will rule in their favor.
