Delaware man writes own obituary, goes viral after death

Posted: Updated:
UNDATED (WHDH) - Those who knew him say Walter Bruhl Jr. was spirited and lovable in life. But even more is being learned about the Delaware man in death.

Bruhl, who passed away Sunday, wrote his own obituary, which has since gone viral.

Bruhl discusses his funeral plans, but also mentions how his wife "refuses to honor his request to have him standing in the corner of the room with a glass of Jack Daniels in his hand so he would appear natural to visitors."

He also ended the obituary by saying "instead of flowers, Walt would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul in his name."

Lines like that, made the obituary go viral on sites like Reddit and Buzzfeed.

His neighbors say that although they were saddened by his death, they were not surprised by his obituary.

"He was just Walter, you know you meet some people that are just personalities and there's never gonna be another Walter,” said Rose Lucas, a neighbor.

Peter and Rose Lucas lived across the street from Walter and said they also aren't surprised it went viral.

"Cause who's ever written something like that, that's the first one I’ve seen. I guess there'll probably be quite a few more. I’m gonna die and do it the way Bruhl did it,” said Peter.
