Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - Several people made an early morning escape when a home went up in flames in East Boston early Saturday morning.

Fire officials responded to a two-story structure on Bennington St. at around 4:40 a.m.

Steve MacDonald of the Boston Fire Department said that the two-alarm fire started above the ceiling on the second floor and was due to an electrical short circuit.

Nine people--seven adults and two children--were displaced due to the fire, but none were injured.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital.

The damage is estimated at $350,000.
