MBTA ferry gets stuck on Sandbar in Hingham

Posted: Updated:
HINGHAM, Mass. (WHDH) - Passengers and employees on the 97-foot Ferry Massachusetts were shaken up Friday night when the ship hit a sandbar.

The MBTA-run ship went aground near the Hingham Back River on its way to Boston.

There were nine passengers and five crew members on board who were temporarily struck until rescuers arrived.

State Police eventually took passengers back to Hingham where they boarded a different ferry and made the trip to Boston.

As the passengers safely completed their trip to Rowes Wharf a tug boat removed the undamaged Ferry Massachusetts.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
