7Healthcast: Mini pacemaker

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - Now a mini stand-alone pacemaker can be inserted into the heart without surgery.

The small cylinder runs on a battery and is inserted through an artery in the groin.

A traditional pacemaker would take about an hour for doctors to insert now it takes only 20 minutes.

The FDA is testing the safety of this new device.
