CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WHDH) - The cause of the campus-wide power outage at MIT on Friday has been fixed.

The power outage impacted all the buildings fed by the MIT Cogneration Plant. Students and visitors were asked to avoid the area around Green Hall on Danforth Street as crews worked to fix the problem.

According to the MIT Emergency Information website, responders said that the outage was the result of a power failure in a manhole outside of Building W5.

Steam pressure was also affected on campus.

The problem was reported fixed at 2:23 p.m. Crews are working to ensure power is fully restored across campus.
