Class Act:

Sierra Weiss

Nominated by:

Craig Byer

Nomination Story:

Gann Academy is delighted to nominate Sierra Weiss, a senior at Gann Academy in Waltham, for Channel 7’s Class Act. Sierra has worked tirelessly to create dance4empowerment, inc. — a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that develops dance programs for people with disabilities.

What’s more, Sierra traveled to Israel her junior year as part of the school’s Exploration Week to learn more about the foundations available for Israeli children with disabilities. That same year, she did an Independent Research Project at Gann Academy on the genetics of Down’s syndrome.

In addition to her work at Gann and in Israel, Sierra has immersed herself with opportunities to assist others and learn more about the field, such as volunteering with Gateways: Access to Jewish Education to provide Jewish educational services for children with disabilities and interning with the Ruderman Family Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting the disadvantaged in our society.

Sierra is a thriving student  at Gann Academy and is making a difference in the lives of people who need a helping hand. These factors combined explain why Gann Academy’s faculty and staff are beyond proud of her accomplishments and drive to repair the world.
