Former doctor sentenced to 6 1/2 years for child porn

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BOSTON, Mass. (WHDH) - Fifty-six-year-old Dr. Richard Keller, a former children's hospital doctor, pleaded guilty to child porn charges and offered a tearful apology in court Wednesday.

Keller will be serving 6 1/2 years on those charges.

He was arrested late last year and pleaded guilty in the fall to these charges.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Keller purchased over 50 DVD's of child pornography online. They also found 500 photos and up to 100 DVD’s at his home.

He used to work at Boston Children’s Hospital and was fired after his arrest. Prior to that, Keller worked at Phillips Academy in Andover for almost 20 years. The school said there were some warning signs over the time he served there.

In 1999 they caught him using a school computer for adult pornography and in 2002, he allegedly shared an inappropriate cartoon with students.

His attorneys said this is a good chance for Keller to face what he calls his demons.
