Brookline Police believe woman was sexually assaulted Friday

Posted: Updated:
BROOKLINE, Mass. (WHDH) - Police are looking for a man who they believe sexually assaulted a woman at Washington Square in Brookline Friday night.

The 31-year-old woman was found unconscious by a group of pedestrians on Washington Street across from the firehouse.

The woman was at Washington Square Tavern earlier in the night and was on her way to the 7-Eleven when she was attacked.

Police are asking for the public’s help but they do have a person of interest in the case.

Police also said this seems to be an isolated incident and that the public should not be alarmed.

"We'd like the public to know that we believe this to be a random assault. We will have officers up in the area. It's a very popular business district at night,” Brookline Police Lt. Phillip Harrington said.

The woman was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

Anyone who was in the area Friday night, specifically at the corner of Washington and Beacon is asked to contact the Brookline Police Department at (617) 730-2222.
