Police arrest man who allegedly attacked woman in North End

Posted: Updated:

A man was arrested in Boston’s North End Monday night after a woman said she recognized him as the man who attacked her on Feb. 15.

The assault happened near Unity Street around 1 in the morning. The man allegedly pushed the victim inside her apartment building before sexually assaulting her. After the assault he reportedly used his cell phone to take a picture of the woman before running off.

In February she gave police a good description of the suspect. When she spotted the suspect again on Monday she didn't hesitate to call police. The suspect was also caught on surveillance video.

Police responded to the North End when the woman called at 6:40 p.m. and placed the suspect under arrest.

“Detectives assigned to the sexual assault unit received a call from the victim of a sexual assault that took place Feb. 15, 2014 in the early morning hours. As a result of that phone call uniformed officers assigned to area A1 in the downtown section of the city responded and an individual was placed under arrest and he was charged with that indecent assault and battery and assault and battery related to the same incident,” Boston Police Superintendent Robert Merner said.

The suspect’s name has not been released but Merner did say he was a 26-year-old white male from the area.

The suspect is due in court Tuesday on indecent assault and battery, and assault and battery charges.

Boston police are not releasing his name.
