Massive fake health and beauty supplies ring busted in NY

Posted: Updated:
MINEOLA, N.Y. (WHDH) - Officials announced on Sunday the takedown of what's believed to be one of the largest counterfeit operations of health and beauty products.

Lip balm, baby oil, inhalers--these are products many people use every day, but officials said these bottles and jars may look like the real thing but they're all counterfeit.

"These are pretty good fakes I wouldn't be able to tell,” said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.

The alleged ring leaders, Pardeep Malick and his brother Hamant Mullick, have both been charged with felony trademark counterfeiting.

Authorities said the brothers and roughly 20 others were making the products in an Oceanside, N.Y. building and storing and selling them in several other locations.

John Clark is in charge of Pfizer’s investigative department and he said many consumers were fooled by the labels.

"They do a phenomenal job with computers and printers now. It's not that difficult. The stuff that's inside of it they couldn't care less about."

Officials are also now saying that the brothers were found to be selling the goods to distributors. Products have turned up in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida.
