Good Samaritan stabbed after attempted assault in North End

BOSTON (WHDH) - Police said that a man was stabbed trying to pull another man off a woman under attack in the North End early Sunday morning.

Officers arrived at the area of Hanover St. and Blackstone St. and saw a man pinning the suspect to the ground. The victim was suffering from stab wounds.

According to the investigation, the victim saw the suspect attempting to assault a female. In an effort to assist the female, he intervened, but was stabbed by the suspect. He was able to knock the knife away and detain the suspect until police arrived.

John Driscoll, 29, of Jamaica Plain was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

He will be arraigned in Brockton Municipal Court on Monday.

The victim was treated at a hospital and is expected to be okay.
