Police involved in shooting in Brookline

BROOKLINE, Mass. (WHDH) - Police in Brookline were forced to shoot a man they said charged at them with a knife Friday night.
   
Officers were called to the man's house on Beacon Street. The caller who reported the crime said that the man was on drugs and was wielding a knife.

Officials said as soon as they knocked on the door, the 27-year-old opened the door and charged at them with the knife.

One officer fired two shots and hit the man once.

He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital and is expected to recover.

Neither officer was hurt. The department is still investigating the incident. The officer involved was placed on paid leave in compliance with department policy.
