To say it’s been a struggle temperature-wise through the first week of March would be an understatement. The cold air has gripped the region to the point that as temperatures eeked above freezing yesterday, it was a welcomed changed.
The average high this time of year is 44 degrees, and finally, we’ll be close to that this afternoon, if not just above it with widespread mid to upper 40s. Early morning blue skies yield to a mix of clouds and sun through the rest of the day as we remain dry.
Still have a lot of salt on the car? I bet many of you do, and if the long lines at the car wash I saw yesterday were any indication, a lot of folks will be taking advantage of the dry weather over the weekend and rinsing off their car.
Take advantage of the ski conditions too… plenty of snow is still on the ground thanks to the cold air that’s been in place. Northern New England averages temps in the 30s this afternoon and 20s tomorrow afternoon. Cooler air tomorrow in Northern New England also means cooler air for us as Sunday’s highs hover in the middle 30s.
I don’t see any big storms the next few days, however, a few snow showers cross the region Monday morning before nearing 40 with dry weather in the afternoon. Tuesday is the mildest day with highs in the upper 40s.
Beyond Tuesday, the forecast gets complicated again as colder air filters in Wednesday, just ahead of the next storm system that approaches from the west. The pattern still favors for a significant storm to move from the Plains, to the Ohio Valley to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast next Wednesday and Thursday. For us, the timing appears to be Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning for the best chance for steady precipitation. It’s too early to confidently speculate rain/snow lines and how much snow, but this is the timeframe to watch.
Colder air and drier weather returns on Friday.
