Pedestrian killed during crash on Route 1 northbound

SAUGUS, Mass. (WHDH) - Route 1 northbound is back open after being shut down Thursday night while state police investigated a fatal crash.

Police said the crash involved a pedestrian who was walking on the street when he was hit. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The crash occurred just  before 9 p.m. and the road was closed for more than an hour while police investigated the scene.

Police have not released anymore information about the victim or the investigation.
