Christians observe Ash Wednesday following Mardi Gras celebrations

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) -

Christians all over the world are observing Ash Wednesday.

Church-goers mark the day by wearing a cross drawn in ashes on their foreheads. Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, which ends forty days from now on Easter Sunday.

That means yesterday was Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, and for the first time ever, there was a Mardi Gras procession around the Fanueil Hall Marketplace. The parade featured floats decorated by local restaurant owners and employees.
