UMass Amherst cracks down on St. Patrick's Day celebrations

AMHERST, Mass. (WHDH) -

UMass Amherst is cracking down ahead of an annual St. Patrick's Day event this weekend.

Last year, several students were sent to the hospital. Six students were arrested after some set fires, threw bottles and smashed windows off campus in Amherst, according to The Boston Globe.

Now school officials are reaching out to police, neighbors, and landlords to make sure celebrations don't get out of hand.

The university said it does not sanction this event.
