Indiana woman gives birth after surprise pregnancy
He’s a healthy, full-term baby boy weighing 7 lbs. 13 oz., yet his mom, dad, and siblings never got to feel him kick inside Mandy’s belly, decorate a nursery or pick out a name.
That’s because Mandy never knew she was pregnant.
"We thought she had her appendix burst,” Josh Cox said.
Cox rushed Mandy Batchelor to the hospital Friday when she started having sudden and severe stomach pain.
"We were in the E.R. and they thought maybe she had gallstones. She said, 'We'll take her back,' and then a few minutes later her water burst everywhere. We had no idea. It was just like, 'When did that happen?' I mean we knew nothing, showed no signs of it,” Cox, the baby’s father, said.
"I never showed. I had weight gain but it was my normal winter time weight gain. I was shocked, very shocked,” Batchelor said.
Mandy had just worked a full, eight-hour day on her feet on the assembly line at the factory where the couple works.
Even though this is her third child she swears her body showed no signs of pregnancy other than low back pain, which she often has from working on her feet all day.
The shocked mom and dad scrambled to come up with a name.
"General Lee is my mom's grandpa and then Jacob was my dad's grandpa, so both my great grandpas. I just put them together. Plus, I have a General Lee car, so it just all worked out,” Cox said.
They announced the 'surprise birth' on facebook to the amazement of family, friends and co-workers.
"They were shocked. They couldn't believe four hours after I got off work I had a kid," Batchelor said.
