MILFORD, Mass. (WHDH) - A Milford mother has been charged following a serious crash Saturday night that sent a car into an icy pond.

At around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Elizabeth Facey, 21, was driving with her three-year-old daughter. According to police, she was driving under the influence and ran a red light, eventually hitting a minivan.

The van had three children and a woman. Due to the force of the accident, the minivan was sent through an intersection and into the pond.

There were some minor injuries. A 14-year-old girl received an injury to her hand and was taken to the hospital. Officials said that it could have been much worse.

"This could have been horrible. Deeper out, further out, it's a quarry. It's actually very deep in the middle. They were actually very lucky that it went into the beginning of it. As we were trying to put together the investigation, you could actually see the car slipping more and more and more into the water. So little faster, a little further, and this could have been a whole different scenario," said Robert Tusino of the Milford Police Department.

Facey has been charged with operating under the influence and endangerment of a child. The Department of Children and Families has been notified and will investigate.
