As an arctic cold front crosses the region tonight and slides south, some moisture along it increases and a period of light snow develops late this evening, mainly across southeast Mass. The steadiest snow in southern Plymouth, southern Bristol and the Cape and Islands will be predawn Monday. Generally 1-2″ of snow falls across far SE Mass with up to 2-4″ for the Cape and Islands. For the rest of us? Just a coating to an inch falls with the snow done by sunrise. That means, aside from a few icy spots on untreated roads, we won’t have much of an issue for Monday morning’s commute. The best chance for slow downs on the roads during the commute (from falling snow) will be across the Cape. What you will also notice walking out the door in the morning is the return of cold air.
Cold air rules through mid week with highs running in the 20s from Monday – Thursday. Most of the time is snow-free, but we’ll track a few snow showers in here Wednesday along another Arctic front. There may be enough moisture and instability to the atmosphere to produce minor accumulations, but there’s no organized area of low pressure around.
There will be an organized are of low pressure off the east coast Friday and Friday night. As of now, it still doesn’t look like a direct hit to New England, perhaps just a glancing shot, and this far out, we have plenty of time to watch it.
