ATM thief slip-up caught on camera in Omaha

Posted: Updated:
OMAHA, Neb. (WHDH) - A slip-up by some thieves in Omaha may be what police need to catch the suspects behind a string of ATM robberies in the area.

A recent theft that was caught on surveillance video showed one of the thieves slipping as he gets out of the van, appearing to injure his left ankle.

As accomplices removed the ATM he slipped on broken glass and exposed himself to the security camera.

Officials are hoping that the burglar in the video won't take the fall alone.

Police believe this group has been behind the theft of about a dozen ATMs stolen in the past six months. They usually get in through a smashed front window.

They're usually quick and take care not to be caught on camera.

"The time in and out was very quick. They way they did the chain they had it set and they were in and out in under three minutes," said Rick McGlade, the manager of one of the hit stores.

The store is adding security measures in case the thieves try to cash in again.

The amount of money in the stolen ATM hasn't been disclosed.
