Heavy rain causes flooding, mudslides in Calif.

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES (NBC) - Raging rivers in California, forcing emergency crews there into the water, in this case, they rescued a dog, trapped in the water.

A huge storm that looks like a hurricane on the map, is spinning into the state of California tonight.

The state is now dealing with more rain in the past couple of days than they've had in more than a year.

Streets are flooding, creeks turn into raging rivers threatening homes, strong winds knocked down trees and power lines.

In the foothills east of Los Angeles the mud is sliding and more than 1,000 homes have been evacuated.

Swift water rescue teams pulled out 2 men and their dogs who got caught in the normally dry L.A. River.

Mudslides closed roads up and down the state.

Too much water; schools closed and the postal service suspended delivery.

The forecast calls for even more rain, good news for the drought, though much of this water just drains into the ocean.
