Port of Miami evacuated after unknown substance found

UNDATED (NBC) - A Port of Miami Terminal was evacuated after an "unknown" substance was found by customs and border protection agents on Wednesday morning.

Miami-Dade fire rescue hazmat responded to Terminal B and it was determined that an antique military compass in one of the passenger's bags was emitting radiation and triggered a security alarm as the passenger was disembarking a cruise ship.

Hazmat crews took precautions to be sure make sure no one was in danger and the terminal re-opened and normal operations resumed before noon.
