State police said heroin has killed at least 185 people in Massachusetts in less than four months.
They said that number doesn't include Boston, which would raise the total.
Officials are attributing the rise to a stronger form of heroin, possibly mixed with the painkiller Fentanyl.
They also said the rise in deaths could also be due to users taking the heroin simultaneously with prescription drugs such as Percocet.
