Autistic boy celebrates birthday with global friends

ANDOVER, Mass. (WHDH) - A young boy with autism is having the best birthday of his life thanks to the kindness of strangers.

Logan Pearson turned 12 on Monday and he got to celebrate with friends from around the world thanks to a post his mom made on Facebook.

Catherine Pearson said she noticed friends and family members had stopped sending cards for her non-verbal son so she asked for everyone she knows to celebrate.

Now, 3,000 cards later, he is celebrating.

“As soon as he woke up, I sang to him happy birthday probably three or four times. He had a big grin on his face,” Catherine said.

A little bit of technology and wonderful people all around the world helped make this birthday memorable.

“He has a hard time making friends. Really, he had not a single friend until now. Now he has thousands of cards where people are saying 'we want to be Logan's friend,'” Catherine said.

The Pearsons are hoping to make his birthday even more memorable when they take him to the Rockingham Mall Saturday.

Catherine says one of Logan’s favorite things to do is ride the escalator and she said if you want to help him celebrate stop by the mall and wear your favorite sports jersey to take a ride with him. For more info on the mall visit, check out Catherine's Facebook page here.
