Despite the gusty wind, it was nice to have lots of blue skies today as temperatures made a run toward 50 degrees. It gave us a chance to melt down some of those ice dams on the roof, as well as get out and enjoy a Saturday afternoon without the heavy jacket, or dodging some sort of precipitation.
So where do we go from here? Overall, we have another good day on Sunday. It won’t be as bright, but it’ll be mild again, and the breeze won’t be as strong as temps warm into the upper 40s to 50. The atmosphere overall is dry, so other than a stray sprinkle north and west of Boston, I don’t expect much out of the clouds.
As a cold front slides across the area overnight Sunday, a batch of moisture does ride along it, producing a few rain drops just after midnight. As the air gets colder and the precipitation steadiest, any drops go over to snow. This band looks a bit more impressive this afternoon, so at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an inch or two of snow fall between 2:00 and 8:00AM Monday morning. The highest chance for that favors areas south of the Pike due to the positioning of the front. Just something to keep updated on for now.
This front signals the cold air returning to New England, and that won’t lose it’s grip on us for at least 7-10days to follow. Forget about 50, we’ll be back into the 20s and 30s for highs.
Additionally, we still need to watch the potential of snow for Wednesday as a coastal low passes southeast of us. It’s just a question of how close it’ll get to providing more snow across the area. I’d at least plan on light snow Wednesday, with the possibility of more significant accumulation if the storm tracks a closer path to our coastline.
