She may be just a teenager but New England native Mikaela Shiffrin is queen of the hill tonight.

She shattered records on her way to winning gold in Olympic slalom.

We got to watch her golden moment with her family here in Boston.

A prodigy on the ski slopes has made her mark in major way, bringing home gold.

The 18-year-old shredded the competition, much to the delight of her family who said they were “ecstatic” and “joyful to the point of tears.”

Mikaela becomes the youngest Olympian to win slalom, a magic memory to cherish for a lifetime.

Her grandparents, aunts and an uncle watched from Pittsfield.

“It couldn’t have happened to a nicer girl. She is just a wonderful girl and a really great role model,” family members said.

An Olympic champion and shining star who’s just getting started.
